Interstate Trip

Friday 12/22

Today we drove home.  But first we celebrated Karla's Birthday! :)

We began the return home at about 10:00am in Pigeon Forge, TN.  We were stuck in heavy Atlanta traffic which delayed us by 2 hours.  We arrived home 1:01am Saturday morning.

Thurdsay 12/21

Today we went to Kentucky.  We saw the incredible breathtaking Cumberland Falls waterfall (official website) which is sized at 60 feet tall by 125 feet wide.

Wednesday 12/20

Today we went through the center of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.  We reached an elevation of about 5300ft today and was able to see small tire sized accumulations of snow & ice.
4:59pm: We are currently on the road, working our way east around the southern edge of the GSMNP.
Amber & Jason went go-carting and we HAD A BLAST esp. AMBER!!!

Tuesday 12/19

Today we ended up at the Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park & Ski Resort at the top of a mountain (2600ft).  We played in man made snow, and later Amber & Jason ice skated for at least 3 hours at the indoor ice skating rink.

Monday 12/18

We drove to the Smokey Mountains today.  We drove the Cades Cove loop within the park and came upon a ranch of very friendly horses about 1/4 mile from the road. Video: Petting A Horse.

Sunday 12/17 - Tennessee

Today we drove around Chattanooga and into the Signal Mountains (about 2000 ft as measured by GPS).  Roads were winding and required 100% attention while driving.  Karla got upset when she looked down the mountain side as we drove up. 

We ended up in Pigeon Forge.  What an amazing city this is.  We also ended up at a very nice, *clean* hotel http://jamesmanor.com right on the strip.  Very reasonable too.  Highly recommended.

Saturday 12/16 - Florida, Georgia, Tennessee

Today we made good headway into the north.  We drove through Atlanta to Chattanooga.  However, after a very long  day, we had a real bad experience at a motel in Chattanooga.  Ugg what a mess!  We ended up moving at 1am to another hotel - Econo Lodge at Lookout Mountain, a very nice hotel.
