Propeller Impact Damage - December 19, 2004
Submitted to City Of Cape Coral MON 12/27/04 12:42pm"
On December 19, 2004 at about 9:00pm, I was coming in with my 20 foot deck boat when between channel markers red 12 and red 14 (channel that runs parallel to Riverside Drive in Cape Coral) my propeller struck an object in the water stopping my engine from about 1000 RPM instantly. The approximate GPS coordinates are 26.54546N 81.94704W.
I later inspected the propeller and discovered serious damage to my propeller which I am learning will have to be replaced, rather than repaired, at a cost of $150+. Hopefully there is no additional damage to my engine's gearset.
After professional analysis, it seems that no rock caused the damage but possibly something much harder such as metal. The outer edge of one of the blades of the propeller is sheered, peeled and curled back.
I ask for the city to check this area near the Yacht Club between the markers for possible hurricane debris. I would like this debris found, identified and communicated back to me. I would be happy to help with this process in any way possible.I also have my track that night per my GPS. If you would like this track so that it can help you determine where the debris is, I would be happy to send that to you.
I will be awaiting your response.
Thank you,
