Sunday, March 20, 2005 Fishing Report

Today we got started about 1pm or so with the acquired enthusiasm after yesterdays catches.  Heading out with a dozen live shrimp and some frozen calamari, and with 3 additional people on board, I did bring my cast net and we headed to the south end of Fisherman Key.  With the extra weight on board my boat wouldn't make it all the way as it wanted to soft ground constantly.  So, threw down the anchor and hiked about a quarter mile in a foot of water.  To my dismay, found no bait fish.

Discouraged, I took us back to the same spot we were at yesterday - Sanibel Bridge Span A.  Lots of waiting and so fourth.  My wife caught something....a blue crab with the calamari.  This was unusual and another thrill.  We continued to fish here and had several bites.  Caught the same catfish twice (we think the same one - he was real fat).

After a while we headed for a scenic tour of all the sailboats at the Matanzas bay.  Got in there and the wife fished for a while all up in there and had no luck.  Enjoyed the live music at the mainland end of the bridge for a bit.

Headed back thru Span A, fished Punta Rassa in and around the channel.  Pipi caught about a 6" something or other - maybe a Sand Perch?

We headed back with not much more but blah fishing results today.

Water temperature was about 73-74 all day.
