Friday, March 25, 2005 Fishing Report

Today we started out at about 4:00 with 18 live shrimp.  I noticed all day a southerly wind that I suspect would push fish up the river.  The plan was to head to the river South of the Cape and check out some "wrecks" and "dumping grounds" that are indicated on my chart.  Got to the general area and realized I was complete knucklehead; I forgot the dang bait box., and my pole needed a leader.  I was pretty pissed at myself.  Not even a darn hook puller.  Ahhhh, but I found the tool kit and as you read on you will see that the neednose pliers were put to use.  Luckily, the wife's pole was onboard, and my little girl's too!

So we began drifting toward the west (outgoing tide) and started to fish.  Bang, bang, bang ... fish after fish after fish for the wife.  She was really bringing them in - fish we have not caught before -  Sand Trout and Whiting.  I would guess that they were 8-10 inches; of course I didn't have my darn ruler on board to check, grrrrrr.

We ran low on shrimp and cut up a fish (ladyfish possibly?)  that the wife had caught earlier.

I, on the other hand, was a late starter.  But I did finally make a catch.  After a while I found my pole pulling once again.   This one was strong.  Pulling real hard.  Halfway to bringing it in the knot on the hook slipped and I lost the bugger.  Waaaaa.  Down to a single hook on board now.

Bugs were bad after dark, especially after illuminating the boat.  All we caught at dusk and after were catfish.  We were done by 7:15.

Water temperature was 78.
Karla's total was 6.
My total was 1.

The kids had a blast playing with the live shrimp.
