Sunday, May 1, 2005 Fishing Report

Today we got started about 11:45am and headed to the Fishing Forum Causeway Bash.  Got to meet some of the guys, and share some stories.  What a great time we had:

Amber just told me, "Those cookies at the party tasted goooooooood".    Many thanks to all of you who contributed to the cause.

After the get-together we decided to do some fishing.  Had exactly a dozen live lively shrimp waiting in the bait well that we picked up earlier.  Headed to the other side of the causeway bash and fished but got no bites.  Then we anchored at the Gulf side of span A of the Sanibel Causeway.  Again, had zero bites.

So we motored through the bridge, shut down, and drift-fished.  Ended up close to the mangroves (Kitchel Key) in about 2 feet of water (or less at times) and the fishing heated up!

Karla caught a small trout.  Then Amber started catching fish after fish.  Amber was really doing well today.  First she caught 2 whitings.  Here's one of them:

Then she caught a good size Crevalle Jack:

She was thrilled!!!!  We call it "The Pig".

Notice, that is my pole she has been using!!

Then Carlos caught a Crevalle Jack too:

We continued around the mangroves but the fun went away when we "tried too hard".   Motoring in tight spots; avoiding crashing with the mangroves; being silent at times; and nothing to show for after that except for a few Cock Roaches Of The Sea.

The final glory was when Karla caught about a fat pencil sized something or other we have yet to figure out what it is:

And this is what I did most of the day:

What's that I see in the background? Holy smokes!

We were back by 7:45pm.

Water temperature was slightly on the low side at 76-78 degrees.  Tide was a strong incoming all day.
