Saturday, May 21, 2005 Fishing Report
Today it was a party of 5 onboard. 2 adults, 3 children. We came with over 2 dozen live shrimp.
There were a mix of emotions on board today.
We finally decided to try another area. Today it would be southern Pine Island sound. This is when the high point of the day occurred. Wow was I surprised. I almost immediately caught the biggest decent fish we have ever caught - a 16 inch Spotted Sea Trout! The picture does not give this catch justice. It was a girthy fish.

What a thrill!
I soon discovered what is commonly referred to as "a hole". We began feverishly fishing this area. But no more Trout.
Later we meandered off to a pass, and I caught 2 long Ladyfish and almost a third. Quite amazing how alive these lady fish were. Upon reeling them in, they would jump from the water 3-5 feet like you see on TV.! Quite a show.

The kids played with the shrimp.

Where we were, in any direction that we looked, there were fish jumping from the water. However, as soon as we motored over and positioned ourselves so that we would drift through them, they were gone. Time to look into trolling motors...
A little further north I caught a Spanish Mackerel.

Later I caught a Pin Fish which Amber originally thought was a Sand Perch.
Karla caught several small Jack.
We all caught a few catfish but the good fish to catfish ratio was way high today. Usually it is the other way around.
Carlos had an interesting thing happen. He was fishing, and somehow the rod was pulled (or thown) from his grip. By the time I realized it the pole was sinking to the bottom.
The other 2 continued to enjoy their day on the water:

We did some more exploring and found ourselves aground. Had to get out and pull us to deeper water when we stumbled upon a colorful reddish starfish attached to an object in the water.
We were back about 6:30pm. I proceeded to dock and nearly lost it - slipped and bashed my leg but somehow managed to keep a grip on the seawall. Oh yeah I forgot to mention, I have been sick with a sinus problem! I don't think much will stop us from fishing these days...
Water temperature ranged from 82 in the morning to about 86 in the late afternoon.

Dinner was yummy! I have to learn how to filet these critters, though. Too many bones.
