Too much rain in recent days has driven off the fish.

Karla wanted to go fishing today.  Our expectations today were low, primarily due to all of the rain we have been getting.  I knew this was to be more or less a leisurely outing, and that fishing wouldn't be good.  I thought, however, we would be able to work on perfecting our harvesting of shiners.

We headed out about 2:30pm with some frozen shrimp & frozen shiners, and a bunch of chum.  After a brief stop in the completely non-salinic river, we went straight for the shiner spot we discovered last week.    We anchored and found the current a strong outgoing.  We began chumming for some time but not a single live one was seen.  Water in this area was significantly less salinic than it was last week.  We saw the rain approaching from the southwest:

Then we headed to the gulf side of the causeway.  As expected, no bites.

Next stop, Ybel point.  We anchored about 100 yards off the light house (just outside the slow zone), and I began chumming.  Immediately on the first throw I noticed about a 12-14" slender fish such as ladyfish/shark/Spanish Mackerel.  Continued chumming and she continued fishing.  Nothing.  That was it.

We went swimming for a while, and did some additional chumming in shallow water, but saw absolutely no life.

We headed back to call it a day.

On the way back, his wires crossed again:

These are the best shots I could get all day.

On land by 7:30pm.  I didn't even bother lifting the pole.
