CLICK ON THE PICS for full size ones
Saturday, August 6, 2005
Today was a last minute effort to salvage a bad day and try to turn it into a fishing, aka "good", day.
I picked up 2 dozen shrimp which turned out to be tiny. I left land about 1:30pm and went thru some stinging rain at WOT about 36mph just at the mouth of the river before the Sanibel Causeway Span A. I stopped at my first spot which was the sand bar on the other side of the causeway (southeast of the causeway). The tide was high so I was just able to clear the sand bar.
I basically drifted around this sand bar for a while and had a few bites then finally a catch: a catfish at 2:49pm. Hey, I wouldn't be skunked today! Hot dog!
I drifted this area a bit more and after a while had another catch, this Hammerhead Shark:

I headed down to Fort Myers Beach for a while. Later in the day the sky became threatening so I hightailed it back toward Sanibel. I stopped in between Sanibel and FMB, and dropped the line once again. Like I mentioned earlier, those shrimp were tiny and so I hooked up with this 4 inch pinfish:

Then I found a pristine inflatable beach ball. It had "Cape Charter School..." print on it. I had to make 2 passes to pick it up; the Gulf was getting sloppy:

An hour later I hooked up another Hammerhead Shark:

6:33pm
He seemed to be trying to get to the bait (notice the bait well on the left). This shark was a bleeder for some reason.
Then, I hooked up the smallest catfish I ever caught (or have even seen):

Here is a sky shot looking northwest over Sanibel Island:

At one point I almost had a lady fish as it rose to the surface and did some jumping action, but she slipped off the hook and went on her way before I could pull her in.
I was back on land by 8:30pm.
Water temperature (Fahrenheit): 90
Wind: minimal
Precipitation: minimal
