We left land sometime around 8:30am only to forget something.  This is becoming a regular occurrence.  Off to the Sanibel Causeway for some bait hunting.  Bait was once again very scarce.  We were unable to get any.

We headed to York Island area once again and fished with frozen pins and shiners.  We were lucky to see a few catfish on our hooks.  But that isn't the worst of it.  The tide was outgoing and was very low.  We got stuck on the flats.  There's nothing like trying to pull a boat out of the mud and sinking into the mud halfway to your knees yourself.  Then to top it all off, while we were making some headway out of the mud, the prop catches a junk crab trap, which becomes wrapped and entangled on the prop.  I was able to once again jump into the mud and used tools to untangle the trap from the prop.  Mechanically sound, we finally headed to deeper water.  The boat became a filthy mud pen with all of this tramping through the flats.

11:06am

It is funny how every time we come out to this flats area just north of York Island we see fish jumping as far as we can see.  They just stay away from us.

We did manage a few bait fish, and I mean a few.  However, Amber played with them and so we really didn't use them.  Later they became what Amber calls "lucky winners" which is a bait fish or shrimp that gets released before it is used as bait.

We finally left the area and drifted toward, then past Picnic Island.  Then on to the Sanibel Lighthouse for a swim.

As it approached sunset, we headed to between the Sanibel Lighthouse and Fort Myers Beach for a last-ditch effort to attempt to catch perhaps a shark or SOMETHING.  Karla landed a baby shark about 8 inches which we "played with" in the bait well for a while before releasing.  Then, nothing else.

8:21pm
See the Sanibel Harbor Resort cruiser approaching the setting sun over Sanibel?

We made it back on land about 9:30pm.

One word can sum up today's fishing trip:  TERRIBLE.  Still though, I still stand by the old saying
"A bad day on the water is better than a good day at work. "
