Just after 9am and immediately before we were about to start the engine and push off the dock we hear the tremendous BOOM-BOOM. We are wondering - gun shots? Truck tire blow-out? Lawnmower explosion, twice!? We later learned it was the space shuttle coming in for a landing!
So to start our day we headed to the Sanibel Causeway to find bait. There was a tremendous amount of bait just off the second island between spans A & B. We caught the most bait we ever have. HOWEVER, 75% of the bait we caught died within 10 minutes of being put in the bait well, while at the same location that we caught the bait. Our bait well pump produces aeration while bringing in seawater. I have no idea why this happened. I do not believe it was due to a temperature differential between the sea from where the bait came, and the bait well. It is difficult for me to understand that it may be because of a lack of oxygen in the water as my aerator was working hard pushing bubbles into the water. Strange.

After catching about 70-80 pieces, we headed directly for the well-known area off of FMB (the same place we headed on Saturday's outing). On the way we discovered something very strange. We stumbled into a hole maybe 30 yards across by 12 ft deep just right of the channel (Gulf Side) about 2-4 miles out from the Causeway. The surrounding area is 4-5 feet deep. Within this area there are bubbles coming up from the bottom and a scent that appears to be some sort of gas, perhaps methane. We fished this area for a bit, but no bites, just bubbles.
We eventually moved on to the location we were headed to.
Karla caught the first Spanish Mackeral:

I continuously got my hook caught on the bottom. Eventually, MY POLE SNAPPED. I cannot even say that my pole snapped due to an attempt to catch a large fish. My pole snapped because I was pulling (bending) too hard trying to dislodge the hook! !#@()!(@&*$#^!

I eventually caught my own Spanish Mackeral but I am really not sure that I can explain my face:

If I remember correctly, I was in mid-sentence when that picture was taken.
