"The line peeled off in less than 10
seconds."
Today our plans were to explore new ground. Also we had a guest - Moises. We left land about 8:40am with about a dozen small live shiners/pinfish leftover from last week. Here is Moises running the boat for the first time:

First stop was west of Picnic Island for bait. And boy there was alot of bait. Here is Moises throwing the net. He catches on very quick:

We loaded up on bait. 80% shiners and 20% pinfish.
We continued on to and stopped at the usual spot in San Carlos Bay. After some time, Moises picked up this Spanish Mackerel:

We all had a few bites and of course some catfish. I lost a hook to an apparent biteoff by a SM (40lb leader). Amber had this little crabby get slightly tangled in her line, and she was able to bring it in:

After some time we moved to stop 3 in Southern Pine Island Sound where Karla began fishing with the "big-fish pole". Now I say BFP because I took one of our light tackle poles, with Shimano I2000 reel, spun it with 65lb Power Pro, 80lb leader, and a ginormous 10/0 J hook! She put a big chunk of SM on the hook and began fishing. All of a sudden her line began peeling off like crazy. She struggled to reel in some line in response but it continued peeling! Before we knew it boom the line was gone. And the handle on the reel was bent. WE HAVE GOT TO GET A BAIT CASTER RIG SOON! We think it may have been a tarpon because based on the amount of force Karla felt, it would have taken a good size shark to do that but a shark probably would have bitten off the leader. Whatever it was, it took off like a rocket. And unfortunately he's got a big 10/0 hook and about 150ft of line behind him.
I had quite a fight too from this little fella. He took me halfway around the boat. He didn't want to come up off the bottom either. It felt like I was trying to lift a giant suction cup off the seafloor. And he isn't really all that big:

At some point Karla was catching a fish (catfish?) and I fell into the bait well, distorting the bottom of it to a concave shape. Another thing to fix. Thank goodness I didn't split it open.
After a while we found ourselves drifting back through San Carlos Bay where Karla picked up this little black tip shark, but she refused to handle it so Amber was definitely up for the pose:

Amber's definitely no little sissy-girl, that is for sure!
A little more fishing here and there. Then we called it quits early and were back on land about 7:15pm.
