"Bad fishing and bad wind."
We left land at 7:30am with a gallon of bait fish chum I made up through the week. This chum was the tool that should have allowed us to get some decent fish for a change. We noticed not many boaters out today. Also, the wind was blowing hard from the east ALL DAY.
It is beyond me why the city decides to close the Yacht Club pier for repairs right in the heart of the season of good fishing. I guess they are more concerned with angering the tourists/seasonal residents than the year-round residents.

We caught lots of pinfish (100% pins) at the flats gulf-side. it took alot of throws but we got about 30-40 pieces. There are a few nice attributes about pinfish: 1) They wiggle alot. 2) They are very survivable. I can hold them in the bait pen for a week or more and every one of them live.
At the first stop, Fisherman's Key, Amber caught this cutie:

Then, nothing but catfish, patience, and lots of being bounced around.
Second stop was near York Island and I jumped what appeared to be a lady fish early on. I also had another bite but once again no hookup. Then alot of nothing for hours. At one point a boat came very close behind us and before I knew it my line was unspooled on their prop. About 5 bucks worth of Power Pro gone and about 15 minutes to get that pole set back up.
Then we drift-fished at over 2 mph for a while.
Then we headed toward Span B and anchored for a while.
Then we went under Span B toward the flats gulf-side of Span A again in search of anything other than bait or cats. In this area seas were calmer than earlier.

7:33pm
Near sunset I wanted to try for sharks near the Lighthouse. We once again experienced big waves and chop that nearly pushed us to our limits. We tried for a short time while the very strong outgoing tide and wind wrapped us around from the pier past the lighthouse and for a short time we became grounded so I immediately got out and pulled us out if it before we would have been in a bad situation.
So we battled the chop and wind back to Span A, where it became more bareable.
We proceeded through the slow zone near Shell Point and anchored for a bit in a cove. We saw lots of 3-5 inch shrimp. But that was it.
Insert about a dozen catfish evenly dispersed throughout this fishing report and the report becomes complete.
It also should be noted that the area received the first rain in months this prior week, and it was torrential.
We returned to land 10:30pm empty handed again.
