" Very slow day  "

With the last few fishing trips so successful for us, it was time for another fishing outing, and there was high optimism for good fishing.  Previously I had accumulated a couple mullet and quite a few smaller baitfish that I caught through the week in Bonita Springs.  Today we left land at 10:24am.  On board were Karla, Amber, Spike, and myself.

10:45am

We first stopped just south and east of Picnic Island for some more bait.  Pinfish, exclusively, were caught, and it wasn't easy; my net got gooked up, and as is well known, the pinfish were lightning fast.  So between a very heavy and sluggish net, and pinfish that would seemingly disappear at the sight of impending capture, I netted about a single pinfish per throw.  They were however, nice sized pinfish at about 3-5 inches each.

So then we anchored at stop #1 - Sanibel Causeway Span B.  There were absolutely no fish here; not even a single bite.  Then we headed to SC Tripod where we have caught numerous Spanish Macs in the past.  Today: nothing.  Even fisherman trying to catch bait found no bait there.

Then we went to the 21 foot cut near the Sanibel Lighthouse and pier, where many boats were anchored and people were fishing.  After quite some time, Karla finally hooked up on something.  I figured it would be a shark; and yes it was.  It was about 2.5 feet in length, but as soon as it surfaced and I excitedly yelled "shark!" she freaked; she threw the pole at me, and moved to the other side of the boat.  At that time the shark was able to bite through the 25lb leader and it was over.  Fun, but I would have liked to have picked it up for a picture or two.

Then we went to Span A of the Sanibel Causeway near some shore fisherman.  Again, not a single bite.

Then we motored through the Shell Point back-waterway and fished a bit here and there with no luck.  Then just outside of the Shell Point waterway, on the river side, there is a deep cut where the channel is, so we anchored there.  I eventually caught this lady fish and another:

That was the biggest ladyfish I have ever caught!  Karla caught 2 catfish here.

I considered hitting the spot where I caught that grouper on Easter, but decided to call it a day.  We were back on land by 6:57pm.  It was a very slow day and I figure it must have been because of the cold-front that chilled everything down earlier in the week.  Now I know to NOT go fishing the week of a cold front!
