" We tried hard and had a
surprise, but all in all mostly quiet "
Carlos N., Spike, and I took off on this lazy Monday afternoon at about 12:50pm for some quick fishing fun wih a dozen live shrimp. Originally it was going to be a short 4 hours or so, but it turned out to be much longer.
We first hit Shell Point but nothing was biting. We also fished the line between the tides - the good & clean side, and also the dirty side of the tide. It is rare that you ever get to see this delineation, and even rarer to be able to fish it. Nonetheless, nothing was to be caught.
Then Carlos mentioned he wanted to catch sharks, so off to Sanibel we went. First, we picked up some very nice pinfish inside of the island between Sanibel Causeway Spans A & B, using my new cast net. I was happy with the good amount and size of pinfish caught.
Next we headed directly for the area between the lighthouse and Span C where it is 22 feet deep. I immediately hooked up on what I believed to be a nice red grouper:

So I immediately thought we were going to have an awesome fishing day! I was so excited. But we continued to drift, anchor, and otherwise zig-zag this area including Span C and the flats toward FMB, with not much else to show for. I believe I had caught that nice red grouper in the "good" water until later when the outgoing tide brought "bad, dirty" water into the area, and once again we saw the tidal delineation quite a ways far southwest of us.
Later, Carlos caught the smallest ratfish known to exist:

He gave up after fishing after not much luck for so long and was chilling with Spike for a bit:
Then I caught this ladyfish. Notice where the ladyfish was hooked:

So with hope renewed, Carlos immediately began fishing again.
Then I caught this little trout:

And then finally I though I had my shark because earlier we saw a shark pass by, likely in the 5-6 foot range, and I had my big-boy-pole out with a dead very large 7 inch pin fish on it, when it began to tug. I set the hook and hollard for Carlos to come help me because "this is going to be the big one man"....I was all excited that Carlos would at least be able to help pull this "big shark" aboard. Well, it turned out to be much smaller than expected, and it wasn't even a shark at all:

Another lousy ratfish it was!
We caught numerous ratfish until we decided to head back.
Mother Nature once again gave us a great clear day with no rain and wonderful sky creations:
We returned to land at 9:10pm. Here is our zig-zag path through San Carlos Bay:

We really tried to utilize our time well today. Most of the day we were in a very strong outgoing tide. At one point we were drifting at 3.0mph, which I have never seen before.
