" Windy & Rough Day On The Water "
I woke up this morning, took a bike ride, then looked out the window and thought, what else to do today for fun? Of course boating & fishing came to mind! I saw that there was already some wind, and a bit more than I like to see for a day on the water, but nonetheless, I sill thought it would be something good to do.
Karla got up, we invited our close friend Joyce, and off we went. We left land at 1:10pm, and onboard were Joyce, Karla, Amber, Spike and myself.

We headed to Picnic Island and caught quite a bit of 1" pinfish along with a few other oddball fish.
Then we were heading for Sanibel Causeway Span C, we noticed an abandoned fishing float in the water that would occasionally be pulled below the surface. I was determined to grab the float and see what it was attached to. After a few attempts, I finally grabbed it:
A catfish attached by its tail to a treble hook!

We drifted outbound from Span C, past the Sanibel pier and Joyce got a bit, and I got one too but no catch. At one point I had hooked onto something large which appeared to be a 3 or 4 foot brownish shark. But unfortunately the thick octopus circle hook was not set, and the fish set himself free.
Later we headed to SC Tripod, which turned out to be a big mistake, mainly because the surf was so bad. The 4 mile trip going there beat the heck out of us. Then we were unable to anchor, so we drifted toward the beach a while. I had my big boy pole deployed with a catfish tail on it, and eventually I had a hard hit; The pole went ZZZZZZZ, and I scrambled to see what had been hooked. After a minute or so, unfortunately, my 80lb mono leader had been bitten through and I lost the opportunity. I believe it was another shark.
A large fishing vessel had passed by us named "Amber Cyn" as can be seen on its bow:

The water was so rough that we headed back.
We were back on land at 7:00pm a little beat up, but happy to be on the water today.
