Self-Sustaining Self-Regulating (Non-powered) Floating Live Bait Pen
Invented by Jason 11/3/06

Update 3/23/08
Recently I caught some 4-6 inch mullet which really like to jump so I cut piece of screen with at least 6 inches of overlap to cover the top of the canal bait pen.  I used a rope to hold the screen in place.  It works well, but I should probably sew the screen around the rope and cut the excess screen away at some point.

Environment
Pen is located near the end of a canal connected to the Caloosahatchee River.  There is very little current here.  Pinfish live for weeks in this, but "shiners" don't last that long.  Sometimes "shiners" will last a week.  Bait are fed with various dinner scraps every few days.

Usage
When we return from fishing, pen is filled with leftover live bait fish and placed in canal.  When we are preparing to go fishing again, pen is tipped as to drain most water off from top, then lifted and bait fish are poured into a collecting net then placed in boat's bait well.  Pen is then thoroughly rinsed with a strong water stream as to eliminate the promotion of attached sealife growth.
