This router continues to perform 100% as expected.

I wanted to let you know that the VPN pass-through works
just fine with this router. I have not tried concurrent sessions of VPN pass-through
as is advertised that this router is capable of.

SAT 7:37am
I was so confident with this router
that I purchased another one to put on the shelf, or whatever. Today I
tested it. First, I saved a backup of my original router. Then I
hooked it in place of my original router, then loaded the latest firmware
(3.20), and loaded the backup config to the new router. After that, some
flakiness was noted:
1) I had to disable-apply-enable-apply my virtual server for my web server
because my site became inaccessible from the Internet.
2) For some reason, "Discard PING from WAN side" does not work, no
matter how many soft or hard reboots of the router. The next test would be to
restore factory defaults, then reprogram the router manually and see if
"Discard PING from WAN side" works or not.
Other than these 2 oddities, the
second router works great.
It seems like when you change
things like filtering, and discard wan ping, the virtual server for port 80
(web server) entry fails, and always needs to be disabled, then apply, then
enabled, then apply, for whatever reason.
Update 1/17/04: This does not seem to be a problem any longer.

TUE 9:50pm
After turning of WAN ping today, I later noticed my web serving
was interrupted. In the router's web interface, I disabled,
applied, then enabled and applied the virtual server entry for my web server and service was restored.

SUN 2:00pm
Just experienced another hiccup after pushing the limits of
this device (still very satisfied with this device though).
From within my LAN, I attempted to
test download a 120Mb executable file from my website thealdens.org. So
essentially the request goes out to the Internet, and comes back in and
requests from my web server also in my LAN. As soon as the download
began, it stopped, and my web server became "invisible" on my
LAN. That is, I was unable to ping it, or access it from within my
LAN! To complicate matters, I happen to have been copying data via
Windows Explorer from the web server to the machine I was downloading the 120Mb
test file to at the same time.
So, thinking that my Router needed a reboot, I did that: no
change. Then I power cycled it: no change. Noticed on my web server
that the Ethernet connection was coming and going (weird). So, rebooted
the web server: still NO change!
Then I went into the router
interface, and for my web server virtual server entry, I disabled it, then
enabled it and my router reported "Invalid IP".
Whoa. Tried to enable it again and this time it was successful and
all returned to normal.

FRI 6:35pm
Just experienced some flakiness:
I was putting in some information in the dynamic DNS section of the web interface
for the router, then I enabled the dynamic DNS function and
applied the changes. The router rebooted. At that time, I lost
port 80 WAN to LAN connectivity (my web server was no longer serving up pages
to Internet requests). I then pulled the power from the router for a
cold reboot. The condition still persisted. Then I disable the
DDNS function, and still no change.
Finally, I disabled, applied, then
enable the virtual server I have defined for port 80/80, applied, and website
requests were once again restored. Bizarre.

Router has been working perfectly. I have not had to
do a thing such as reboot it.

WED 10:26pm
Updating this web page wirelessly. As I played with
the wireless settings and accessed my website from within the LAN I
experienced some flakiness. Could not access my site from within the LAN
or outside of the LAN. Power cycled the router which did not help the
situation. Rebooted the router via the web interface and it came
back. Strange. Similar behavior to the Belkin
router, but so far not nearly as frequent.
Wireless distance achieved is
about the same as the SpeedStream.
I did not do too much testing of this as I will not need to be pushing to the
limits as far as wireless is concerned.

This is one awesome router! I am so
thrilled with it. It is very stable (so far), it is serving my websites
right up, etc. This router is LOADED with neat and unusual techie-type
features including variable remote admin port, as well as variable remote
admin IP address, time & date adjustment, throughput statistics (packets),
ping, reboot, dynamic DNS (WOW!), VPN pass-through for up to 10 ( I think )
concurrent VPN sessions, auto Ethernet cable detection (whether it is a
straight thru or crossover), and Ethernet cable test!!!!!!!!
AND get this:
I purchased this online at Office
Depot, and put in coupon code 93923224 for a
delivered price of $64.74. HOWEVER, after 2 mail in rebates, my final
cost will be $15! Rebate section on Officedepot.com is kind
of hidden.
Now my only complaint so far is
that before I updated my firmware, I backed up my settings to a file, then
applied the firmware update, then noticed my settings had been reset (the book
says the settings will be RETAINED throughout a firmware update), and when I
went to restore all my settings from the backup file, I received a CRC
error. So, I had to reprogram the router. Not a big deal if it
continues to work. My original firmware was v2.18, and I am at
v3.20 now.
The router is warm to touch,
however not nearly as steaming as the unstable SpeedStream
I tried.
I do need to point out that I have
not tested any of the wireless functions or connectivity at this point.
My first goal was to simply find a router that could handle simple
routing-by-wire before I evaluate it's wireless capability.

This router just arrived and am
currently updating the website THROUGH it! It was very quick and very
easy to set up. Details to come...

Will be purchasing this router soon to give it a test.
