5/15/22 | Car hasn't been accelerating well. Amber thinks it needs a fuel filter (attached to fuel pump in fuel tank. Remove bottom of back seat to access.) 5/16/22> Mechanic thinks clutch problem. |
approx. 122,000 |

3/23/21 | Replaced battery with Rural King 1yr free replacement / 60 mth pro-rated. Group 35 "for Toyota" (The next step up battery was not available.) |

3/10/21 |
Battery is weak and needs to be replaced: Car would not unlock with remote, and since Amber lost her only physical key, I had to jack the car up and hook up a battery charger to the starter cable. This was enough to unlock the doors, then I charged the battery normally. Ran the car for a while, then shut it off and turned on the headlights. Car would not start after headlights being on for 12 min. |

1/4/21 | Update. It leaked no oil over night. Upon running the car it was clearly leaking oil onto the ground. Further researching this, I have concluding that the oil cooler is leaking. Video 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmJKyY4xKzw Need 12mm socket.(33-39ft lbs torque) Need 10mm short socket on small rachet (tighten with rachet). Oil leak
repair. Oil changed. |

1/3/21 | Oil Leak After running the car tonight I noticed a large 2.5 foot diameter oil accumulation under the car. Alarmed, I thought the car just belched this out. I jacked up the car and found nothing damaged (from an animal or otherwise), but lots of oil around the bottom of the motor. I cannot tell where it is coming from. The motor is not obviously dropping oil while running or off. I thoroughly rinsed off engine from top to bottom. I believe engine slowly leaks oil from unk area(s) - Perhaps mid or top end. Will have to observe leak pattern over time, and keep oil level topped off. Found 1 of 3 bolts missing from exhaust pipe-to-mainfold connection. Added suitable missing bolt / nut / washer / lockwasher hardware.

11/21/20 | Rcvd used 3rd brake light purchased from Ebay. Two mounting tabs are broken off. I am trying a workaround with glued-on velcro. Update 11/22/20> The velcro works well. It may be a good idea in the future to glue more velcro on the other sides to hold it even better. |
|||||||
11/18/20 | Karla removed all clothes and etc and cleaned up car today - Vacuumed it and wiped it down., including trunk. There is still a very bad smell coming from the vents in both
recirculation as well as fresh air modes. I am running the blower fan
and battery charger to try to air out the vents. The RR floor was wet. Karla wet/dry vacuumed it, and I am blowing it dry with a fan. The flimsy trunk wood shelf is deformed, so I wetted it and a placed bricks on it while it dries to try to straighten it out. Earlier in the week I ran a fan and dried out mysterious water puddles in the trunk. Maybe AKA left the trunk open when the police found her incoherent. Trunk light bulb was missing so I replaced it. I found that the entire 3rd (middle) brake light housing is
missing. Strange. Need to get a new one. (Ordered a used
one from Ebay). |

11/11/20 WED | Yesterday, Amber started driving home from Reidsville, Ga and ended up on a remote country road with a flat RF tire. The sheriff's dep't found her incoherent and transported her to hospital. This morning I found the car and confirmed the tire is flat & destroyed, likely from being driven on the rim, and I installed the spare tire. We went to Walmart and got a new RF tire (Goodyear Viva). I also discovered the engine oil was below L on the dipstick. I added 3qts SuperTech synthetic oil to bring it to H on dip stick. Amber with Karla, and I drove home separately. Mileage at arrival home: 106,475 |
|||||||
8/30/20 | AC hardly blowing cool at all. Checked pressures: 44 / 125 lbs at approx 85-90F ambient. 105lbs system off / settle pressure. Found that AKA had recirculation off. Turned it on and added a number of bursts of R134a and got inside blow to about 57F which is not as good as I'd like to see but much better than before. Final pressures about 50 / 150. Settle about the same. Educated AKA about keeping recirc on. I had a note from a year ago: "Replace missing engine cover bolt:
161225Y70A ($7 on ebay). Find one at
hardware store." |
|||||||
8/2/20 | Oil & Filter changed. Oil = 5qts Penzoil 5W30 synthetic Filter = K&N . The old filter I removed looks to be the Purolator filter we installed last year. |
102,421 | ||||||
8/1/20 | Mileage check. Added some power steering fluid. Coolant level is good. Oil level is about 1/2 qt low and is dark. Amber said she had someone change the oil "a while back". |
102,401 | ||||||
July 2020? |
Amber removed windshield windows tinting. | |||||||
1/18/20 | Replaced coolant filler neck & added a gallon or two of 50/50 water / Durex Extended Life coolant. Drove car several miles and it performs well and does is not overheating.
|
|||||||
1/14/20 | Amber complaining car won't go and is trying to stall out. She made it about 3 miles home. Looking under the hood there is coolant all over the place. The coolant hose that attaches to the coolant fill has broken off and clearly belched out most of the coolant. Code P1217 is present: Engine coolant over temperature. The car clearly overheated. Hopefully it did not damage the engine. After sitting for a bit car seems to run OK in the driveway. Need to replace broken coolant filler neck. |
93,191 | ||||||
1/11/20 | AKA registered the car again. She complained car would not go into gear. Update 1/13/19> AKA showed up with the keys and I tried it. I noticed the
clutch pedal was initially close to the floor. I happened to pull up
on the pedal with my hand and then it felt firm again. Car goes into ever
gear and seems to drive fine. |
93,166 | ||||||
12/4/19 | Car broke down and had to be towed. 12/5/19> Mechanic determined clutchdisk spun agains trans input shaft splines, and the splines have been ground down. See notes in Altima folder in text document. 12/18/19> Car was fully
repaired and back on service (approx 93,155mi) |
|||||||
11/24/19 | The car has had the plastic underside cover in the front hanging for a couple weeks. I checked it today. Some of it has broken off and is missing. secured what remains with zip ties. Checked coolant: Overflow tank empty, and radiator filler neck just slightly low. Topped off both. Checked oil: Halfway between the crosshatches. To add about 1/2 qt RK 10W30 conventional oil. Checked tire pressures. |
92,951 | ||||||
10/4/19 | In preparation for a trip AKA plans to take to Boca Raton, I checked & topped off the fluids. Oil was just a little low. Coolant was maybe a pint low. All other fluids were normal. AKA advised mileage is 91k. |
|||||||
9/15/19 | Amber took car to Firestone complaining of shake at 50-60mph and that it can't go on the highway it is so bad. Firestone replaced front struts, front tires, and did an alignment totaling $1100+ of which Amber had her male friend (David?) pay most of. She said the problem is gone. |
|||||||
8/17/19 |
|
|||||||
6/9/19 | Replaced air filter with CarQuest # R83057. Used gray foam to try to seal
the union of the front air intake to the air cleaner. |
approx 88,800 |
? | |||||
6/7/19 | Amber and I changed her oil & filter. (Mileage would have been about 88,600 or so. Next oil change should be on the fives at 95,000mi). |
approx 88.600 |
||||||
6/6/19 | AKA had a friend work on headlight lense restoration, and there is a significant improvement. AKA said the parking brake was working a little.
Confirmed. The two brake cables must not have fallen off after all. |
88,710 | ||||||
6/5/19 | NOTES: Jimmy advised for leather repair: Leather Medic; Cat Skin (leather covers). Jimmy advised he uses very fine sandpaper on lenses such as 1000-1500 or 2000. |
|||||||
6/4/19 TUE |
I checked coolant level in radiator and it is nearly full so I feel good about the coolant situation. AK put insurance on vehicle through Direct Auto Insurance (directgeneral.com), and was issued a temporary insurance card. AK Registered (License plate / tag: Z436JW "In god We Trust"), requested title transfer, payed tax. Looking closer at the CarFax report, it looks like it was last purchased in an auction in February, after a repossession. -Installed new Michelin windshield wipers AK bought. Right and left are 2
different sizes, interestingly. |
|||||||
6/3/19 MON | Car seen for the first time in Sarasota. Purchased. |
approx.88,400 | ||||||
